Shanghai Shipyard is staying away from loss-making contracts, even though it has just nine vessels on its order backlog, amid speculation about the yard's future.
The China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC)-controlled yard has not taken any new orders this year. The last newbuilding contract it landed was in June 2017, when Estonian shipowner Platano Eesti commissioned a pair of 100,800-dwt mini-capesize bulkers.
