British companies refused to supply the crew of a damaged bulker with food supplies for four days because of a furore over its potentially explosive cargo, a senior official said.
The 37,000-dwt open-hatch Ruby (built 2012) was stranded for weeks off the coast of England last year. It was carrying 22,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate for delivery to African ports when it suffered damage from a grounding off Norway in August.
