Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ shipbuilding and offshore division has made a ¥300m ($2.7m) operating loss in the first quarter fiscal 2019.
In the same period in the previous fiscal year it made a ¥1.3bn profit.
The Japanese shipbuilder is putting the loss down to lower production levels over the period.
Despite the loss Kawasaki has had some success in building up its orderbook.
