This time the Gerry Wang-led company has turned to Taiwan’s CSBC Corporation for the 14,000-teu vessels.
Seaspan will pay the same $110m per unit that it has agreed to shell out for 10 newbuildings of the same size at Hyundai Heavy Industries.
As reported earlier today, Yang Ming Marine has signed firm contracts for all 10 of those vessels, including five confirmed less than two weeks ago during a second quarter conference call.
And the Taiwanese containerline has also signed pre-contacts for the five ships announced today which are scheduled for delivery in 2016.
The terms of the latest charters were not revealed but Yang Ming is thought to have agreed to take the Hyundai Heavy Industries-built ships at $46,000 per day over an initial 10-year period.
Seaspan intends to fund construction of the last 10 newbuildings initially with the proceeds of its Series D preferred share offering and with debt financing.
The company now has a tally of 26 boxship newbuildings on the way, including the 11, 10,000-teu boxships under construction at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China.
It is widely expected to exercise some of the 14 options it has at YZJ during the current quarter.
