A Norwegian-owned tanker operated by South Korea's Samho Shipping has been hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean on Saturday.
Numerous sources indicate that the 19,900-dwt chemical carrier Samho Jewelry (built 2001) was hijacked in the north-eastern part of the Arabian Sea near India.
Seizure of the Malta-flagged vessel is a bitter blow for operator Samho which saw one of its owned VLCCs hijacked in the region in April and only freed in November after payment of a $9m ransom.
