Belgium’s key port of Antwerp handled record levels of containers and liquids in 2011.
The terminal said the overall total of freight was 187.15m tonnes last year, up 5% from 2010.
Container volumes rose 2.3% to 8.66m teu. Ro-ro freight grew 14% to 4.24m tonnes.
Conventional and breakbulk cargoes put on 14% to 12.69m tonnes as steel business improved.
Bulk freight jumped 7%, as liquid bulk volumes added 12% year-on-year at 46m tonnes, the biggest ever total.
