Grim economic conditions have put paid to half of an eight-ship box order from a mystery European owner at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

The South Korean builder refused, however, to identify the owner behind the chopping of four containerships while it also shied away from revealing the size of the units.

HHI said the original order for eight ships was inked in June 2007 with a total contract price of KRW 856.7bn
