Container lines are adding to the cost of rerouting vessels away from the Suez Canal by raising surcharges to pay for Europe’s carbon tax.
The move adds to a raft of additional freight costs that have led to accusations that carriers are seeking to profit from the Red Sea crisis.
Among the revised surcharges are those linked to carbon emissions as vessels sail the longer route around southern Africa.
