A report from a Burmese website claims Tay Za, head of the Htoo Trading Company and a prominent target of US sanctions, has bought a dry cargoship and a tanker on a trip to Pusan in South Korea.
"He plans to open the shipping business to the private sector in Burma," a Burmese source told the Thailand-based Irrawaddy website.
Tay Za, an associate of Burma's military chief Than Shwe, was thought to be acting in cooperation with the government.
