RCL splashes more than $200m on newbuilds and secondhand container ships

Thai carrier Regional Carrier Lines (RCL) has inked a $170m newbuilding deal for two 7,000-teu neo-panamax container ships after its most profitable year ever.

The two neo-panamax container ships — to be built at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) in China, with deliveries scheduled for October 2024 and May 2025 — will be funded from bank loans, according to a note to the Thai Stock Exchange.
