Maersk Line has dropped a low-cost alternative to heavy fuel oil (HFO) it was trialing as a potential fuel source in favour of low sulphur bunker fuel.
Quadrise Fuels International, the makers of the MSAR fuel, said Maersk had notified it that the use of MSAR alongside exhaust gas scrubbers will “not be considered as an option”.
Instead, Maersk said its intention, in achieving compliance with the IMO’s 2020 sulphur limit legislation, will be to use only compliant fuel with less than 0.5%
