London-based salvage consultancy company TMC, which has been working closely with the Korean government on the wreck-removal project, said the operation to raise the ship by Shanghai Salvage had been successful.
TMC’s Stephen Tierney, who was on site for the final stages of the wreck removal this week, told TradeWinds: “I can say that the salvage team is obviously very pleased to have successfully lifted [the] Sewol to the surface and are busy draining water from the vessel and preparing the sea-fastening before bringing it into Mokpo new port around 31 March.”
