Port-state control (PSC)’s role in checking ship safety should be expanded to include investigating criminality, according to a new report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) that exposes the extent of drugs and arms smuggling in the shipping industry.
The report, put together by analysts Hugh Griffiths and Michael Jenkins, alleges that maritime transport “dominates international trade in licit and illicit goods.
