Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard is quoting $140m for a 2,600-teu containership newbuilding.
The current figure cited by reliable sources values the US yard's third ship at nearly four times what a closely comparable ship can be ordered for at a German sister facility. If it can win such a price, it would be giving itself a raise of $45m per ship over the two $95m units sold to Matson Navigation in a deal struck in May 2002.
