Coulouthros president Basil Embiricos and co-owner Anthony Embiricos originate from a distinguished shipowning family from the Aegean island of Andros.
The Coulouthros name first appears in the island's shipping history in 1830. The family were part-owners in a sailing ship called Eftychia.
Like most of the Andriot shipowning families they moved into steamships and by the beginning of World War I Anthony Coulouthros owned two vessels.
