The liner industry is likely to remain fragmented for some time to come with consolidation unlikely in the foreseeable future despite the carriers’ present financial difficulties, according to analyst Alphaliner.
The analyst points to a number of barriers, including the heavy debts of players, preventing further consolidation in the container shipping sector.
It also argues that owners wanting to expand will be more likely to be tempted by low shipbuilding prices to grow organically.
