A fixture for an eastbound VLCC journey out of West Africa contributed to a jump in spot rates today, helping to extend a recovery from last week's slump.
Statoil booked Athenian Tankers' 318,000-dwt Athenian Success (built 2010) for the journey at WorldScale (WS) 70, up from WS 60 for a similar journey at the start of the week, according to Tankers International (TI)'s smartphone app.
