Panama claims to have tightened up its procedures on flag-hopping after the US sanctioned seven ships on its books for their alleged oil trades linked to Iran and the militant group Hezbollah.
Following an internal investigation, the country’s maritime authority said that it would automatically cancel the registration of any vessel involved in illegal activities or that changes its flag to evade sanctions.
