Trading giant Glencore is said to have chartered two aframaxes from Italy's Gruppo Scerni in a deal that could see it spend $24.8m if it lasts the full two years.

Glencore's ST Shipping hired the the 109,000-dwt Sn Olivia (built 2010) and Sn Claudia (built 2009) for one year firm at $16,000 per day, according to shipbrokers.

The deal is understood to have included an option for a second year at $18,000 per day.
