Shipping is vastly overshooting a greenhouse gas emission cap if it is to remain on track to contribute to minimising the impact of global warming.
Researchers from University College London’s Bartlett Energy Institute warn that achieving industry goals would require all new vessels to operate on clean fuels, while ships built before 2016 would need to be retrofitted with clean technologies or scrapped.
