An International Maritime Organization committee has taken steps that will help pave the way for using ammonia as a fuel in ships.
The Maritime Safety Committee has formally adopted interim guidelines on the use of ammonia, according to classification society reports of its latest meeting.
The committee, chaired by US Coast Guard official Mayte Medina, also adopted new rules ending a ban on the use of ammonia cargoes as a fuel.
