Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) is to slash its newbuilding capacity in Japan and focus on its jointly-owned shipyards in China.
Central to its plan is the closing one of the two docks at its Sakaide shipyard by around 2020 reducing the scale of its business by 30%.
It will focus on two shipyards it co-owns in China with China Cosco Shipping Corp – Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS).
