Japan’s two largest shipbuilding groups have been given competition approval to establish a joint venture.
Imabari Shipbuilding and Japan Marine United (JMU) said they are now working towards a 1 January starting date for the new business, to be named Nihon Shipyard.
The joint venture was due to start in October 2020, but coronavirus has delayed the process of securing international competition authority approval.
