Shipbrokers say the 5,215-dwt Lucky Whale (ex-Lena, built 1995), which hit the block late last month, fetched close to $1m in a transaction with buyers from the UAE.
Market sources dismissed reports the ship was sold for scrap to a company in Syria and claimed the vessel will be “cleaned up” in Turkey before trading in the Arabian Gulf. They would not, however, reveal the identity of the new owner.
