Sale-and-purchase brokers say the 176,000-dwt Spice (ex- Hull No J0040, built 2012) fetched between $33 and $33.5m.
The price tag is around $2.5m lower than what VesselsValue.com believes the bulker to be worth in today’s market and $3m below the renegotiated cost of a similar unit ordered by John Fedriksen’s Golden Ocean at the same shipyard.
Some say the freshly minted cape was purchased by Berge Bulk of Singapore while others claim it was acquired by the transportation arm of Chinese steel mill Rizhao Steel.
