Salvors of the wrecked containership Rena are discussing towing the still-buoyant aft end to shallower water.

It is currently sitting over a 40m chasm which plunges down from the reef.

Experts in New Zealand said that they expect the aft end of the ship to break off before long.

This part still has some buoyancy and would be stabilised while containers and the remaining oil is taken off.
