A Novoship tanker was involved in a Christmas Day incident with suspected pirates off the southern African coast, TradeWinds has learned.
The suspicious approach occurred not long after an Indian bulker was also attacked in the same region but escaped by returning fire.
The Russian 112,900-dwt NS Africa is said to have spotted suspicious activity in its vicinity in the Mozambique Channel south of Comoros early on 25 December.
