A crew member of a Greek tanker hijacked three weeks ago by Somali pirates has died onboard, it has emerged.



News of the death onboard the 72,800-dwt Polar (built 2005) comes as the vessel is known to be used by its captors as a mothership from which to stage further attacks.

Filipino Prudante Cabral died on Monday after suffering a suspected stroke onboard the Panama-flagged products tanker, a statement issued on behalf of the ship's manager, Paradise Navigation, read.
