An over-heated electrical cable caused a potentially deadly fire on a Condor ro-ro in 2010, an accident report has found.
The blaze broke out in a reefer trailer powered from the ship’s supply in the early hours of 16 June on the main vehicle deck of the 500-passenger ro-pax Commodore Clipper (built 1999), which was heading from Jersey to Portsmouth.
The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said the crew contained the flames using the vehicle deck water drenching system and boundary cooling from above, but were not able to extinguish it.
