Almost 50 countries have submitted a proposed text that will help decide which greenhouse gas pricing mechanism shipping will adopt as it seeks decarbonisation by 2050.
The text has been supported by major shipping nations and flags, including all European Union maritime nations and the UK.
Panama, the Bahamas, Marshall Islands and Liberia are among the other heavyweights behind the proposal.
