European Union authorities extended on Thursday the validity of Italy’s shipping tax rules until the end of 2023, after the Mediterranean nation adjusted them to comply with the bloc’s competition rules.
“Italy… committed to a number of changes to its scheme to avoid undue competition distortion, as well as to prevent any discrimination between shipping companies and registries of different European Economic Area (EEA) States,” the European Commission said in a statement.
