Mixed year for Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain’s largest port, has reported full-year operating profits of EUR60m ($79.5m) for 2011.

However, the Catalonian port said revenues for the same period were down by around 6% year-on-year to EUR158m.

Container traffic at the port surpassed the 2mteu mark in 2011, which represented a 4% increase on the previous year.

Of that total about 511,096-teu, up 14%, were exports to countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
