Vijay Kamath, a familiar face in Singapore’s shipping community, has died unexpectedly from a heart attack.
His death was confirmed in a statement from Philip Clausius-led Transport Capital posted on its website.
“It is with heavy hearts that Transport Capital shares the passing of colleague and dear friend, Vijay Kamath,” the Singapore-based investment management and financial advisory firm said.
“He passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack in the morning of 11 November 2022.”
Kamath had been a part of the Transport Capital team since 2021 and was based in the company's Singapore headquarters.
“The team has lost a colleague who demonstrated positivity and the ability to bring excitement to every project he took on,” the company said.
“On a personal level, he will be greatly remembered for his zest for life, warm smile, and unwavering dedication to the team.
“I am at a loss for words to describe the sadness we all feel in the company,” said Transport Capital founder and managing partner Philip Clausius.
“Whilst he only joined us at Transport Capital in 2021, I have known and worked with Vijay for 16 years.
“For him, the team always came first, which explains his enormous popularity in the industry. I will forever remember the broad smile and booming laughter. My heart goes out to his wife, Jaya and his two children, Arnav and Ayira,” Clausius added.
“This is very sad news,” said veteran shipping banker Tobias Backer, one of many industry executives to post their condolences on LinkedIn.
“We just caught up last week and had a great chat. He had such an infectious smile and boundless positive energy. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family,” he said.
“Heartfelt condolences to Vijay’s family and all his colleagues at Transport Capital,” said former International Chamber of Shipping chairman Esben Poulsson.
“He lit up our lives and will be greatly missed by his many friends in the industry - May he RIP.”
The family is asking to respect their privacy at this trying time and will no longer accept condolences.
Transport Capital said it was “inviting all of maritime Singapore to an evening to celebrate Vijay’s life and contribution to the industry” on 19 November.
