With a master’s degree in business from Tokyo Metropolitan University, Kuma is a rare female executive in male-dominated Japanese shipping.
She first made headlines when the former NYK Line employee of about 18 years became chief executive of APM Terminals in 2021 to support the expansion of the company’s business in Japan.
