Traders Vitol and Mitsui & Co have launched new initiatives for customers wanting to offset the carbon emissions from their LNG cargoes, and Russian giant Gazprom has indicated it will follow suit.
Vitol, which is headquartered in the Netherlands and Switzerland, has unveiled its Green LNG product, under which the emissions from the wellhead to the ship delivery associated with a cargo would be offset by the cancellation of Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs).
