Using conventional ammonia as a step towards burning a greener version of the fuel is likely to be a dominant strategy for ship operators to decarbonise.
That’s according to a report by climate change advisors to former US president Bill Clinton and the head of an ammonia industry association.
“An ammonia-oriented game plan for maritime players almost achieves dominant strategy status,” wrote the authors of “The Ammonia Report”, who have set up new advisory group Carbon Neutral Consulting.
