A Greek-owned VLCC has reportedly delivered the "world’s first" carbon-neutral crude cargo, according to the US company behind the deal.
Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, said Pantheon Tankers Management’s 300,000-dwt Sea Pearl (built 2017) had delivered the 2m barrel cargo to India’s Reliance Industries.
It said it was the energy industry's first “major petroleum shipment” in which greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the entire crude life cycle, from wellhead to combustion, were offset.
