Academics push for high-risk area in Gulf of Mexico

With severely under-reported numbers, there is a push to designate the Gulf of Mexico's Campeche Sound a high-risk area for piracy.

World Maritime University professors Adriana Avila-Zuniga Nordfjeld and Dimitrios Dalaklis have documented 14 attacks in the region off Mexico in the first four months of 2020 , according to maritime security consultancy Dryad Global. That's significantly more than the three incidents that were reported to international authorities.
