The Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) on Thursday formally threw its weight behind a proposal to reduce carbon emissions from shipping by introducing mandatory engine power limitations.
The UGS management board endorsed the proposal in a meeting earlier this week, the organisation’s president Theodore Veniamis told the union’s general annual assembly on 5 February.
According to the proposal, the engine power would be capped, depending on ships’ individual energy efficiency.
