Sovcomflot chief executive Igor Tonkovidov warned on Tuesday that high-quality safe shipping is being sacrificed for short-term geopolitical ambitions after his company was hit by European Union sanctions.
The Russian state shipping company and its top executive were both targeted in the 14th round of economic measures aimed at limiting Moscow’s revenues to wage war in Ukraine.
In his first comments since the listing, Tonkovidov said he was “genuinely disappointed” at the measures and warned that they did nothing for maritime safety in European waters.
