China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) is expanding its presence in the international car carrier market as Chinese automobile export volume grows.
In a regulatory filing, the Hong Kong-listed shipping company said it has converted the 4,900-ceu Chang Tai Hong (built 2009) for global trading. The ship had been previously deployed in domestic trades only.
China Classification Society was engaged to certify that the car carrier meets requirements for ocean transportation.
