Delays caused by a clampdown on sanctioned Russian cargoes are compounding problems caused by congestion in the container shipping market.
Danish giant AP Moller-Maersk has warned of “significant delays” as countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany hold back vessels en-route to Russia in search of restricted commodities.
The company said that the “ripple effects” were likely to spread across the regional network, resulting in further delays and congestion.
