Gibson Shipbrokers has predicted that an increase in extreme weather events will cause more spikes in volatile tanker rates.
In a report produced in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in the US, the UK shop said storm-related disruption will become more commonplace as climate change intensifies.
Hurricane Ida was upgraded to a category 4 storm and made landfall on 29 August, taking out many of Louisiana's 17 refineries.
