China’s first LNG newbuilding is nearing the end of a complex repair job that will have kept the ship out of service for almost 10 weeks.
The whole tail-shaft of the 147,000-cbm Dapeng Sun (built 2008, pictured) had to be removed and machined ashore in a bid to correct contamination issues with stern tube bearings, sources indicated.
Contaminants such as paint flakes are believed to have caused damage since the ship was delivered from Shanghai-based yard Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
