Four Greek seamen stranded in Djibouti are causing a political furore in Greece, with the opposition raising the case in parliament and the government pledging to take unconventional measures to secure their release.
The seafarers are the last remaining crew members on board two bulkers held off Djibouti since September. A local court issued arrest orders for the 45,700-dwt Ptolemeos (built 1995) and the 46,700-dwt Arybbas (built 1996) over their owners’ outstanding debts.
