As of Wednesday morning, the Chinese government had not yet issued an official response to the US military designation of several state-owned enterprises, including shipping giant Cosco and leading shipbuilder CSSC.
However, experts on Chinese affairs speculated that Beijing was preparing a robust response, expected to be delivered by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during his daily press conference later in the day.
