Bimco wants Gulf of Guinea states to do more to prosecute suspected pirates after Denmark released three of four alleged gunmen it arrested in November.
"States in the Gulf of Guinea region must take responsibility and step up prosecution efforts when pirates are apprehended by international navies," the shipowners' organisation said.
The trio was being held on the Danish naval vessel Esbern Snare after a firefight that killed four men and left another wounded.
