LNG shipping markets are likely to remain flat throughout this year and into the first half of next, but could show recovery from the second half of 2018 when new LNG volumes start to come onstream, according to shipbroker Poten & Partners.

Steen Kyvsgaard, Poten’s head of chartering for LNG, speaking at the Madrid LNG & Shipping Forum, said that from next year onwards some of the 40 surplus LNG carriers will start to be absorbed as new LNG capacity comes onstream, with the most modern and efficient vessels being taken up first.
