Shares of Teekay LNG Partners, the owner of a gas-carrier involved in a fatal crash off Merak, Indonesia, slid 1.27% to $37.32 in midday trading Wednesday while Teekay Tankers, which controls an aframax that grounded off Estonia earlier in the week, fell 1.83% to $3.76.
A spokesman for parent Teekay Corp, whose stock held steady at $31.02, says it too early to discuss how separate unrelated incidents involving the 5,820–cbm Norgas Cathinka (built 2009) and 113,000-dwt Kyeema Spirit (built 1999) will impact the group.
They did, however, pass along a statement from Vancouver-based chief executive Peter Evensen who said: “Right now, our thoughts are with the families of those impacted by the incident [off Indonesia] and with the emergency teams handling the incident response.”
The Norgas Cathinka is owned by Teekay LNG, which bareboat chartered the vessel to an affiliate of Norwegian operator IM Skaugen in a contract that isn’t due to expire for another 12 years, according to its most recent annual report.
Teekay Tankers owns the Kyeema Spirit, which was trading with an aframax tanker pool and chasing a cargo for Statoil when it grounded in shallows off Estonia on Monday but has since been refloated and may need to undergo repairs before returning to work.
