Third quarter figures showed $2.9m profit for International Shipholding Corp.
This compares with a loss of $13.8m for the same period last year, although this figure included an impairment charge of $25.4m.
ISC purchased a 2000-built, ice-class, multi-purpose vessel which it has placed on timecharter to the US Military Sealift Command (MSC) said to be worth $10m per year.
The charter is for an initial period of 12 months with options out to nearly five years.
